Dental Treatments
Today’s advanced dental treatments and materials can give you a healthier, more complete smile that can last you a lifetime. Your dentist in North Andover MA, Dr. Demetriou, can help revitalize and maintain your teeth and gums, giving you the smile you’ve always wanted. To do this, Dr. Demetriou and his staff use the most advanced technologies in modern dentistry.
Advanced Technology
Digital Imaging
Dr. Demetriou chooses carefully which and when radiographs are taken. There are many guidelines that we follow. Radiographs allow us to see everything we cannot see with our own eyes. Radiographs enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs.
Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health in our office. Dr. Demetriou utilizes Digital Imaging technologies in the most efficient and effective ways possible. With digital imaging, exposure time is about 50 percent less when compared to traditional radiographs. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information, such as allowing us to see cavities more easily. Since the images are now digital, we are able to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.
Digital X-Rays
Digital X-rays offer more precision since we view the image on a computer monitor, instead of holding up a 35mm film up to the light. This is because when the image appears on a computer screen, it allows us to change the shade of the image, as well as being able to zoom in and out to focus more on specific portions of that same image. There are several more advantages to using digital x-rays over the conventional way of taking x-rays. These advantages include:
- Less Radiation (About 1/16 of the radiation exposure to our patients)
- Shorter Dental Appointments (No more waiting for films to be developed)
- Higher Quality Images (Can be enlarged or magnified)
- Transferring Dental Records (Can be emailed instead of sending through mail services)
- Environmentally friendly (No developing chemicals or “dark rooms”)
Laser Dentistry
For soft tissue (surgical) procedures, Gum Disease Laser Therapy eliminates the need for incisions and suturing while making the healing process very quick and pain free.
Areas of dental care that benefit from laser technology:
- Periodontal, or gum related, care
- Apthous Ulcer treatment (canker sore)
- Frenectomy (tongue-tie release) without anesthesia or sutures
- Crown lengthening, gingivectomy and other gum corrections.
Dental lasers have been shown to be safe and effective for treating both children and adults.
Intraoral Camera
Dr. Demetriou utilizes intraoral camera technology that helps enhance your understanding of your diagnosis. An intraoral camera is a very small camera – in some cases, just a few millimeters long. An intraoral camera allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth, and gums. In turn, this allows us to accurately make an exact diagnosis. With clear, defined, enlarged images, you see details that may be missed by standard mirror examinations.
This can mean faster diagnosis with less chair-time for you!
Intra oral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These images can be printed for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.
